Newsletter - December 10th, 2003

Dear Followers,

Last week's newsletter should have mentioned the 60 Minutes feature on Solomon Burke. Solomon told them, "I've always considered myself as the king in exile. Been waiting, sitting in the wings waiting ... Maybe I'm on trial to see if I'm really the artist that people want me to be."
Click here to read about Solomon's appearance.

We bought Kenny's van to replace the one that Craig let someone steal. Though we aren't allowed to mention the specifics, we got a deal. The dent that Kenny tried to hide aside, the van has such positive features as rich Corinthian Leather and real mahogany accents.

Fat Possum is proud to announce they we have finished recording Thee Shams' Fat Possum Debut which will be releasing the record in early spring. In other news, we have just signed Detroit soul legend Nathaniel Mayer and we'll keep you guys updated about him in the future.

Kenny Brown and T-Model Ford will be touring together starting tonight and continuing until the 13th. This mini-tour starts tonight at the Mecury Lounge in Nashville, TN, hits the Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC on the 11th, Ziggy's in Winston-Salem, NC on the 12th, and concludes in Chapel Hill. NC at the Local 506 on the 13th.

Also, on tour this weekend is Paul "Wine" Jones who will be hitting the Pilot Light in Knoxville, TN on the 12th and the Star Bar in Atlanta, GA, on the 13th, so make sure you escort your date to all restrooms and especially the parking lot.

Still time to order gifts for the Christmas holiday. We have everything to suit the needs of the classiest individual on your list (the book) to those lower echelon friends of your wife (the ultra-profane hip-hop remix experiment gone bad - scroll down to see what we mean).

Seasons Greetings from everyone at Fat Possum Records

A great Christmas gift for the classy individual

Darker Blues is a 100+ page book of photographs of the musicians of Fat Possum Records. In addition to the photos, Joe Sacco's now-classic story, "The Rude Blues" is printed here, as a stand alone comic book. It's the first appearance of the story since it showed up in Details magazine several years ago. Barry Hannah and J ohn Barry have both contributed essays to the book as well.

A book about music that contains no music just seemed wrong, so we included two CDs packaged into the book as well. The 16 tracks on CD1 show what we're up to at the moment. The 7 tracks on CD2 are something special: Seven never before released tracks of R.L. Burnside music.

Sample Darker Blues CD #2:

1. Boogie Intro
2. Go To Jail

These are all excellent records on which we'd stake our reputation. Unfortunately, they failed to receive the recognition they deserved when originally released.

If you thought that the world didn't care about old blues guys, just think about white indy-rockers.
